*MATCHED* ADOPTIVE PARENTS TEXAS

  • Adoptive parents looking to place their 6-year-old for adoption

  • They are open to anyone who can meet her needs. They have no religious preferences and are open to same-sex and single moms. She needs to be in a home where she is an only child or the other children are much older.

  • T is a biracial (Black/white) girl who was adopted from foster care. She was removed from her parents at 6 months. She moved homes a lot and her current adoptive parents were the 10th home she was in by the age of 2. Two of the homes were family members of hers. She is very smart and qualifies to be tested for the gifted program but is socially behind so she is unable to prove she’s mature enough to be in the gifted program. She enjoys reading and coloring.

  • Mom has bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and has issues with drug abuse.

  • She was exposed to drugs in utero but had no physical health complications.

Physical: No physical health issues or major allergies

Behavior: The adoptive mom says she is showing signs of mental illness but they are unsure of what because she is too young to be officially diagnosed. She’s currently on 2 ADHD medications and 1 bipolar medication but they are going to talk with her psychologist to get her meds adjusted because they aren’t helping with her mood. Mom says she sees a therapist and psychologist. She is very emotional and had to be placed in the school’s behavior unit. It is believed that due to bouncing around to so many homes so early she had issues forming attachments and has been diagnosed with RAD (click to read about Reactive Attachment Disorder, RAD Fact Sheet), they believe RAD is the reason she has a cognitive delay and lacks impulse control.

Mom says when she’s ok her personality is great but they don’t know when something is coming.

She steals food and lies about why. She creates elaborate lies about how she is treated by her family and parents.

The adoptive parents had 2 biological children within a few years of her being adopted and has tried to harm them twice. (RAD also impacts siblings in the home) This is why they think it’s best for her to be the only child so she can get more attention and support.

These are the behavioral disorders the mom says she has:

    • Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD): Environmental factors: Having a chaotic family life, childhood maltreatment, and inconsistent parenting can all contribute to the development of ODD.

    • ADHD

    • Disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD): is a condition in which children or adolescents experience ongoing irritability, anger, and frequent, intense temper outbursts.

The parents say they’ve tried everything they can but feel its best for her to be placed in a home with another family. Mom says she had a rough time this summer and put her in a mental facility for 9 days and the facility discharged her. They have her stay with respite families on the weekends.

School: She had a 504 plan , then moved to an IEP. (click here to learn the differences) Her kindergarten refused the follow her IEP and that set her back, the school she is at now is following her plan. Again, she is book smart. Does great in school, loves to read, and could be in the gifted program.

  • Dad also suffers from bipolar.

  • She was exposed to drugs during the pregnancy.

  • The family would like a semi-open adoption so they can see how she is doing and settling into her new home but do not want visits or phone calls.
