What You Need to Apply to Adoption Situations
A Private Adoption Home Study
This is done by an independent social worker or adoption agency. If it was done by the state for "Foster to adopt" it will not qualify unless the organization does both foster care and private adoption. The social worker who does your home study will also do your monthly post-placement home visits.
This is a requirement in every state.
An Adoption Attorney
If your state allows you to adopt outside of an adoption agency you will need to have an attorney. They will be responsible for drafting termination paperwork, the terms of the adoption, and petitioning the court to finalize the adoption.
A Digital Adoption Profile Book
You need a PDF profile book completed. This is what the expectant mom will use to review hopeful adoptive families. If you do not have one you can purchase a template or hire a designer to create it. The book should be no more than 14 pages and compressed for easy emailing.
Bonus: Printed Adoption Profile Books
Some agencies or adoption attorneys request hard copies of your profile book to review in person with the expectant mom. You can print them yourself or haveour a design partner take care of it for you. It's best to have 3 books on hand in case one needs to be overnighted.
If you need assistance in obtaining one or more of these things please email hello@noireadoption.com
